The ratification proceedings for a foreign judgment must run simultaneously and in parallel with the proceedings on the merits pending before the Brazilian judiciary, and it is therefore inconceivable that either of them be stayed. In cases of concurrent jurisdiction, the stay of one of the proceedings is equivalent to a definitive choice of one of the jurisdictions, since the proceeding that continues will certainly become final and unappellable first, precluding any decision in the other proceeding:
